SS28 Season Playbook
Post-luxury ease and the minerals that will define the summer
The SS28 Season at a Glance
SS28 is a corrective season after two summers of maximalism. The consumer is fatigued by excess detail, loud prints, and status-signalling hardware. The brief is restraint that feels considered rather than minimal. Post-luxury ease is the operational definition: quality materials that do not shout, silhouettes that move, prices that reflect craft without demanding justification. This is a season for brands with something real to say about fabric and construction.
Colour Story
The SS28 palette is mineral and foraged. Terracotta leads as the season's warm anchor, specifically the mid-toned, slightly muted variant rather than the saturated version that peaked two seasons ago. Mineral Sage is the season's cool counterpoint, performing strongly across knitwear and dresses. Raw Clay functions as a neutral replacement for beige, warmer and more complex. Solar Sand is the season's near-white, replacing cream for labels looking for a cleaner proposition. Indigo Wash arrives as the season's colour story for denim and casual categories. Bleached Ecru closes the palette as the most wearable base across all tiers.

Open Colour DecisionSilhouette Movements
- Post-Luxury Ease: Relaxed tailoring with considered construction. Unstructured blazers, wide trousers, clean shirt dresses. The movement's strength is cross-tier performance: it works from Contemporary to Premium.
- Mineral Earth: Earth-toned layering with texture contrast. Linen over knitwear, open-weave over solid. The season's most distinctive visual language.
- Technical Light: Lightweight performance materials applied to everyday silhouettes. Not sportswear. Breathable, packable, weather-aware. Strongest in the Contemporary and Outdoor-influenced tier.
- New Craft Summer: Hand-finish references, crochet inserts, artisan detailing on otherwise clean silhouettes. Editorial-first; smaller commercial window but high ASP.
Fabric Signals
Linen is the season's headline fabric, but specifically linen that is well-finished and preshrunk, not the crumpled-on-purpose aesthetic of previous summers. Ramie performs as a linen alternative with better drape for fluid silhouettes. Cotton-linen blends are the volume fabric. Lightweight technical weaves for the Technical Light movement. Open-weave knits for Mineral Earth layering. Avoid heavyweight fabrics in any category: the season brief is lightness. Sustainable certifications (GOTS, OEKO-TEX) outperform seasonally for the first time, and consumers are asking at the point of sale.
Commercial Outlook
Dresses lead for SS28, specifically midi-length in the Post-Luxury Ease movement. Lightweight outerwear (unlined, packable) outperforms expectations. Knitwear underperforms relative to AW seasons but open-weave options maintain relevance. Resort-to-mainline crossover is the strongest commercial bridge: pieces that read on a beach in June and in a city in September. The Premium Contemporary and Contemporary tiers lead. Luxury performs only for the craft-intensive New Craft Summer movement where ASP is justified by visible technique.

Open Commercial ScoreHow to Apply This Season
Same practical workflow as AW27 but sequenced for a warmer-climate brief. Colour first: Mineral Sage and Terracotta are strong starting points but validate your specific shade before ordering swatches. Score your hero pieces early: SS28 has a narrower commercial window per movement than AW27. Build a style brief to anchor your pattern maker to the Post-Luxury Ease language before they draft. Run range health before placing production. The risk in SS28 is over-indexing on a single movement at the expense of the basics that drive volume.
Select SS28, choose a dress or shirt, a relaxed silhouette, linen fabric, and Mineral Sage. Generate the brief to see Post-Luxury Ease applied to your garment.
